Description
Sem was adopted in 2022 and quickly settled into family life, where he became a much loved companion. For several years, he lived happily in his home, forming strong bonds with his humans and enjoying all the comfort and stability that come with finally belonging somewhere.
According to his family, things gradually changed after the arrival of a young child in the home. Over time, Sem became increasingly uncomfortable and stressed within the changing household environment, and eventually his behaviour began escalating both around resources and around other animals. After a recent incident involving the child, his family made the heartbreaking decision that they can no longer safely manage the situation within their home.
This has clearly not been an easy choice for them, and the focus now is on finding Sem an environment where he can feel secure again and where his behavioural needs are properly understood.
Outside of his behavioural challenges, Sem is described as an incredibly loving and affectionate dog. He absolutely adores cuddles, attention, and being close to his humans. He forms strong emotional attachments and genuinely enjoys companionship and physical affection. He loves his walks, enjoys being outdoors in all weather, and is very content spending time relaxing in the garden.
At home, Sem prefers calmness, predictability, and structure. The increasing activity and unpredictability of life with a small child appears to have been very difficult for him emotionally, and he now needs an environment with significantly less pressure and stimulation around him.
Sem has developed reactivity issues, particularly involving food and interactions with other dogs. He is uncomfortable sharing space and resources with other animals and struggles most when dogs invade his personal space, especially larger dogs approaching him directly. While he may appear social or interested in other dogs from a distance during walks, close interactions can quickly overwhelm him.
Because of this, Sem needs a very specific type of home moving forward. He must be the only pet in the household and cannot live with small children. His ideal environment would be calm, structured, and predictable, with experienced adopters who understand reactive dogs and are willing to respect his boundaries rather than constantly pushing him beyond his comfort zone.
Future adopters should be realistic and experienced enough to continue managing his behaviour responsibly. This includes understanding body language, avoiding unnecessary stressful situations with other dogs, managing feeding situations carefully, and giving him the consistency and security he clearly needs emotionally.
Importantly, Sem is not described as a generally difficult dog in everyday life. In the right environment, with the right expectations, he is affectionate, loving, and deeply bonded to his people. The issue is that his current environment no longer matches what he is emotionally capable of coping with.
Dogs like Sem often do extremely well once placed into calmer households that properly suit their temperament and behavioural needs. He is not looking for chaos, constant visitors, young children, or busy multi pet dynamics. He is looking for stability, routine, understanding, and people who appreciate him for who he is.
After already losing one sense of security, it is extremely important that Sem’s next placement is carefully chosen and permanent. He deserves a home where he no longer feels overwhelmed and where both he and the people around him can relax safely and comfortably together.
