Description
Niki’s journey began in complete isolation. He was found abandoned in the middle of nowhere alongside his mother, Damtina, and his siblings, Kejt and Slavco. In a world that had already failed them, their mother became their fierce protector, keeping them safe from harm and refusing to let any other animals near them. Despite her strength, she could not shield them from the reality of their situation—they were alone, vulnerable, and in desperate need of help. Thankfully, they were rescued and brought to the shelter, where they were finally given food, warmth, and the chance at a new life.
Since then, Niki has grown into an outgoing and friendly young dog, full of energy and curiosity about the world around him. Niki is eager to connect with people. He greets humans with excitement, always ready for attention and affection. He thrives on interaction and would make a wonderful companion for someone who is looking for a friendly and affectionate dog. However, for all his enthusiasm, there is one thing that sets him apart—he knows nothing beyond the shelter walls.
For Niki, the shelter is the only life he has ever known. He has never experienced a home, a cozy bed, or the simple joys of everyday companionship. His world has been limited to the shelter environment and the comfort of his mother and siblings. He has never had to navigate the complexities of life outside, meaning he will need patience and guidance as he learns what it means to be part of a family.
While his little brother, Slavco, was lucky enough to find a home, Niki, his sister Kejt, and their mother Damtina are still waiting. They watch as other dogs get adopted, always hopeful that one day, their turn will come too. Niki would do well in a home with other dogs, but he will need proper introductions to feel secure. Because he has spent his entire life alongside his mother and siblings, his interactions with unfamiliar animals have been minimal. With careful guidance, he has the potential to befriend both dogs and cats, but it is important that his future family understands that he will need time to adjust.
Niki is a healthy, happy dog who will be neutered before adoption. He has been vaccinated and is ready to start his new life. However, because he has never lived in a home, he is not yet toilet trained or leash trained. His future adopter will need to be patient and willing to teach him everything from scratch. Every experience—going for walks, riding in a car, learning house rules—will be new to him. But with love and encouragement, he will adapt and thrive.
The ideal home for Niki would be with someone who understands that shelter dogs need time to adjust. He would benefit from a family that is patient, kind, and willing to guide him as he discovers the world outside the shelter. A home with another confident dog could be beneficial to help him learn the ropes, but it is not a requirement. Most importantly, Niki needs a home where he will be loved unconditionally—not for the dog he might become in the future, but for the sweet, friendly, and affectionate boy he already is.
