Description
Erika is a Jack Russell Terrier through and through.
She is energetic, bouncy, social and full of enthusiasm for whatever happens to be going on around her. She is the kind of dog who brings plenty of life into a home and will suit someone who genuinely enjoys having an active and involved canine family member.
Erika is very friendly with people and has a loving nature. She enjoys human interaction and is naturally sociable, combining all that Terrier energy with a very affectionate personality.
She is also used to living with other dogs and is comfortable sharing her home with canine company. A future home with another suitable dog could therefore work well for her, although introductions should always be handled sensibly when bringing any new dog into an established household.
Another advantage is that Erika is already toilet trained, giving her a useful foundation for moving into her permanent home. As with any dog entering a completely new environment, her new family should still expect a short adjustment period while she learns where everything is and becomes familiar with a different routine.
Anyone interested in Erika should understand what living with a Jack Russell Terrier can involve.
These may be relatively small dogs, but they were developed as working Terriers and often have considerably more energy, determination and confidence than their size suggests. Erika will need more than simply being allowed into the garden for a few minutes each day.
She will benefit from proper daily walks, opportunities to explore and sniff, interactive play and activities that give her brain something to work on. Training can also become an important form of enrichment for an intelligent and active dog like Erika.
Jack Russells are often curious and persistent dogs. If something catches their attention, they can become very interested in investigating it. Continuing to work on recall, lead manners, impulse control and responding to her humans around distractions will therefore be useful throughout Erika’s development.
Her energetic nature also means she needs a family who actually enjoys that side of her personality.
Erika is not being advertised as a quiet little dog simply because she happens to be small. She is active and bouncy, and she needs appropriate outlets for that energy. Someone looking for a dog to accompany them on walks, spend time outdoors, play regularly and participate in everyday activities could find Erika a very enjoyable match.
Once her physical and mental needs are being met, she also has plenty of affection to offer.
Erika is loving and social, so being included in family life will be important to her. She should have opportunities for activity and excitement, but also be encouraged to settle and relax as part of a normal household routine.
At this stage of her life, continuing her training will help turn all that enthusiasm into good everyday habits. Positive reinforcement, consistency and clear boundaries will suit her much better than simply trying to suppress the lively personality that comes naturally to her.
Erika is friendly, affectionate, toilet trained, comfortable living with other dogs and absolutely packed with typical Jack Russell energy. She needs a home that sees her activity level as part of the appeal rather than something they hope she will quickly grow out of.
For someone who enjoys Terriers and wants a small dog with a very big presence, Erika has plenty of personality waiting for them.
