Azula

Azula

Azula is the only girl in a litter of four, and she seems perfectly aware of her position. Smaller than her three brothers but carrying herself with the confidence of someone considerably more important, she is an affectionate little queen who loves cuddles just as much as she values having her own comfortable space. She is sweet, calm, and observant, with a wonderfully independent streak that gives her plenty of character.

Description

Azula came into the world under circumstances that could very easily have ended differently.

Her mother was a young street cat, likely experiencing her first pregnancy, when she began having serious difficulties giving birth. In terrible pain and unable to deliver her kittens naturally, she sought help from the people around her. Eventually, one woman realised something was badly wrong and took her to a veterinary clinic.

An emergency Caesarean section was performed, and four tiny kittens survived: Azula and her three brothers, Zuko, Aang, and Sokka.

From the beginning, Azula had the distinction of being the only girl among three boys. She is also the smallest of the litter, but absolutely nothing about the way she carries herself suggests that she considers herself the little sister.

Azula has a wonderfully composed personality. She often sits or lies with an almost regal posture, quietly watching everything happening around her as though she has been appointed supervisor of the entire household. While her brothers may be getting involved in whatever kitten business has captured their attention, Azula is perfectly capable of finding herself a comfortable position and observing proceedings from a suitable distance.

Comfort is extremely important to her. If there is a particularly soft bed, warm blanket, comfortable cushion, or peaceful corner available, there is a very good chance Azula will eventually claim it. She enjoys lounging and takes her relaxation duties surprisingly seriously for such a young cat.

That independence does not mean she is distant with people. Quite the opposite.

Azula is extremely cuddly and enjoys human affection. When she is in the mood for attention, she is very happy to settle close to her people and enjoy being fussed over. She has a lovely balance between affection and independence. She enjoys closeness but does not feel the need to be involved every second of the day.

When she has had enough socialising, Azula simply finds herself somewhere comfortable and takes some time alone. She seems to genuinely appreciate having a little personal space where she can rest without being disturbed. Even then, she often chooses somewhere that gives her a good view of the room, allowing her to keep an eye on everything while enjoying her solitude.

For future adopters, this is an important part of understanding her personality. Azula is likely to appreciate a home with several comfortable resting places and somewhere slightly elevated where she can retreat when she wants peace. Cat trees, window perches, shelves, and cosy beds would give her plenty of opportunities to choose between joining family life and quietly observing it.

As a young kitten, she will naturally continue developing and her personality may evolve as she matures. She will still need plenty of appropriate play, scratching opportunities, mental stimulation, and interaction to support her development. Having grown up with three siblings, she is also accustomed to the constant presence and communication of other cats.

Azula’s difficult beginning is something she will fortunately never remember. Because someone finally stopped to help her mother, she and her brothers were given the opportunity to enter the world safely rather than becoming another litter lost on the streets.

Now the smallest member of that litter is growing into a very distinctive little character. Azula may be physically smaller than her brothers, but when she is stretched out comfortably in her chosen spot, surveying everything around her with that serious expression and regal posture, there is very little doubt about who believes she is in charge.
