Asher

Asher

Asher is a beautiful black dog with an exceptionally gentle, affectionate and friendly personality. He is the brother of Atlas, who has already found his permanent home, and the two are almost identical apart from Asher’s completely black coat. After spending his life on the streets, Asher was finally brought into safety when his brother was adopted and a place became available for him in boarding. He is a peaceful, loving boy who enjoys human attention and has a naturally calm and pleasant manner. Unfortunately, black dogs are often overlooked in rescue, and Asher’s colouring may make finding a family more difficult despite his wonderful character. He deserves to be considered for the dog he actually is: a sweet, sociable and affectionate boy who would love the opportunity to become part of a permanent family.

Description

Asher has a brother named Atlas, and if you have seen photographs of the two, you would immediately recognise the family resemblance.

They look remarkably alike, with one particularly noticeable difference. While Atlas has his own colouring, Asher wears an entirely black coat.

Atlas has already been fortunate enough to find a permanent home, but Asher has not yet had the same opportunity.

For a long time, Asher was still living on the streets while waiting for a place in rescue. When Atlas was adopted, his departure created the space needed to finally bring Asher into safety.

It was an important moment for Asher, but it was only the first step towards the life we want him to have.

He is now safe in boarding, where his lovely personality has become very clear.

Asher is an exceptionally sweet and gentle dog.

He has a naturally peaceful manner and is not the sort of dog whose personality depends on being the loudest or busiest in his surroundings. There is something very pleasant about the way he approaches people, and his calm nature makes spending time with him particularly enjoyable.

He is also very affectionate.

Asher enjoys human company and responds warmly to attention. He is friendly and loving, and his gentle personality makes it easy to form a connection with him.

What stands out most is how uncomplicated his affection feels. He enjoys being around people and appreciates their attention without needing to make a great deal of fuss.

For someone who prefers a calmer dog over one who is constantly looking for excitement, Asher could be a particularly appealing match.

His peaceful temperament does not mean that he should be expected to spend his days doing nothing, however.

Like any dog, Asher will need regular walks, opportunities to explore, appropriate exercise, mental stimulation and time spent interacting with his family.

Having previously lived on the streets and now being in boarding, Asher has not yet had the opportunity to experience the consistent everyday routine of a permanent family home.

His future adopters should therefore be prepared to introduce him gradually to household life.

Learning where to sleep, understanding feeding routines, becoming familiar with different household sounds and adjusting to new expectations may all take time.

His new family should not assume that he already understands every aspect of living indoors simply because he is calm and friendly.

Toilet training, lead manners and other household routines may need to be established or reinforced once he arrives. Positive reinforcement, patience and consistency will help him understand what is expected.

Asher’s gentle personality is a wonderful foundation, but he still deserves the time and guidance that any rescue dog needs when entering an unfamiliar home.

There is another important part of Asher’s story that we hope prospective adopters will consider.

He is a black dog.

Unfortunately, black dogs can have a particularly difficult time finding homes. They are often overlooked in favour of dogs with lighter coats or more distinctive markings, even when their personalities are just as lovely.

Asher is exactly the sort of dog who can be affected by this.

His appearance is beautiful, but his entirely black coat may mean that people scrolling through adoption photographs do not immediately notice him.

That would be a shame, because his personality deserves attention.

Behind that dark coat is a friendly, affectionate and exceptionally gentle dog who has already spent a considerable amount of time without the security of a permanent family.

Asher should not have to wait longer simply because of his colouring.

His future home does not need to be particularly complicated. What matters most is finding people who appreciate his calm nature, enjoy having an affectionate dog around them and are willing to provide the stability and everyday care he has been missing.

A peaceful, predictable environment would suit his personality well, particularly while he adjusts to life outside boarding.

He would benefit from people who are happy to include him in their routines, take him on regular walks, spend time with him and allow him to develop confidence in his new surroundings without unnecessary pressure.

His brother Atlas has already made the transition from life in rescue to becoming part of a family. Asher now deserves the same opportunity.

The brothers may look almost identical, but Asher is very much his own dog, with his own gentle character and his own future waiting to begin.

He is friendly, affectionate, loving, and there is no reason for his black coat to overshadow those qualities.

Asher has already made it off the streets and into safety. What he needs now is a permanent home where he can enjoy a comfortable routine, regular human interaction and the security of knowing that he will not have to move on again.
