Description
When Mleko was found on the streets, he was barely bigger than the palm of an adult hand.
He was far too young and far too small to have any chance of safely managing life outside on his own. How he came to be there is something we will never know, but thankfully he was found and brought into foster care while he was still a tiny baby.
That foster home has given Mleko the opportunity to experience a very different beginning to life.
Instead of growing up on the streets, he has grown up inside a family environment surrounded by people and other animals. He lives with dogs and cats and is completely comfortable around both.
He also shares his foster home with a toddler, and their relationship tells you quite a lot about Mleko’s personality.
Mleko regularly finds himself involved in games of dress up and is apparently quite happy with the arrangement. He has also discovered the toddler’s doll stroller and will happily sit inside while being pushed around.
For a puppy who started life abandoned on the streets, he has adapted remarkably well to the role of tiny household celebrity.
Mleko is an affectionate little dog who loves people and enjoys attention. He likes being included in whatever is happening around him and has grown into a happy, social puppy who clearly enjoys family life.
He is also playful and energetic, as you would expect from a puppy.
His Miniature Pinscher heritage is worth considering when thinking about the adult dog he may become. Miniature Pinschers are small dogs, but they are often lively, curious, intelligent and confident. They can have considerably more energy and personality than their size might suggest.
Mleko will therefore need a family who wants to engage with him rather than simply choosing him because he is small.
As he grows, regular walks, play, opportunities to explore, mental stimulation and positive training will all be important. Small dogs benefit from exactly the same opportunity to learn and develop good habits as larger dogs.
Mleko is still at the beginning of that process.
His future family will need to continue with all the normal aspects of raising a puppy, including toilet training, lead walking, recall foundations, household manners, appropriate chewing habits, settling calmly, and learning boundaries.
Continued socialisation will also be important. Mleko has already had an excellent start because he is accustomed to living around different people and animals, but socialisation should continue throughout his development through positive and carefully managed experiences.
He is great with other dogs and could potentially share his permanent home with a suitable canine friend. He is also great with cats and is already accustomed to having them as part of normal household life.
Mleko is wonderful with children too.
His experience living with a toddler means children are already part of his everyday world. His tiny size should still be remembered, particularly while he is young. Children should always interact with him gently and appropriately because such a small dog can easily be injured accidentally during rough handling or overly enthusiastic play.
The same consideration applies when he is around much larger dogs. Mleko may be confident and sociable, but his physical size means introductions and play should always be supervised appropriately.
As he moves towards adolescence, his family should also expect his personality to continue developing. Puppy confidence can turn into greater independence, curiosity and occasional selective hearing as dogs mature. Consistent positive training from the beginning will give Mleko the foundations he needs.
What is already very clear is that Mleko loves being part of a home.
He enjoys people, plays happily, gets along with dogs and cats and has happily accepted the slightly unusual responsibilities that come with living alongside a toddler, including modelling outfits and occasionally serving as the passenger in a doll’s stroller.
Mleko may have started life as an impossibly tiny puppy alone on the streets, but that is no longer the environment shaping his everyday life. He has grown up in foster care surrounded by affection, animals, play and family activity.
Now he needs a permanent family who will continue everything his foster home has started and guide this happy little character through puppyhood, adolescence and eventually into adulthood.
