What do we look for in foster homes?
Foster homes are compassionate individuals or families who are willing to provide a safe and loving environment for our animals. We value foster homes that can offer time and commitment: Fostering requires time and dedication. Animals in foster care may need regular feeding, socialisation and training. We seek foster homes that can commit to providing proper care and attention to their foster animals.
Fosters that can offer patience and flexibility: Some animals may come with specific needs or behavioural challenges. We appreciate foster homes that are patient, understanding, and willing to work through any difficulties with the support of our team.
Most importantly, foster that can offer love and care: Foster homes should be able to provide a nurturing and caring environment. Offering love, attention, and socialisation helps our animals feel secure, confident, and ready for their future forever homes.
How many foster homes do we currently use?
At present, we are fortunate to have a dedicated network of 15 foster homes supporting our organisation. The number of available foster homes may vary as animals are adopted or transitioned to permanent homes.
Why is fostering important?
Foster homes provide personalised attention and care that may not be possible in a shelter environment. Animals in foster care receive one-on-one interaction, socialisation, and a chance to thrive in a home setting. Fostering also helps animals make a smoother transition from their previous situation to their forever homes. It allows them to adjust, heal, and gain necessary skills and confidence before finding their permanent families. Most importantly, by fostering animals, we free up space in our organisation, enabling us to rescue and help more animals in need.
Each foster home creates room for another animal to be saved.
What do we provide to our Fosters
We provide support, guidance, and necessary supplies to our foster homes throughout the fostering journey.
Amos has a certified behaviorist available to provide support to any foster home as needed. However, it is essential that foster caregivers adhere closely to all instructions from the behaviorist to ensure the effectiveness of the behavioral support provided.
Amos will cover any necessary veterinary care for the foster animal. However, for non-life-threatening situations, foster caregivers must obtain a quote from the veterinarian prior to scheduling an appointment, allowing Amos sufficient time to raise the required funds.
Fosters are expected to provide food for their foster animals. However, in instances where specialised medicinal food is required, Amos will either supply the food directly or cover the associated costs for the foster caregiver to obtain it.
Amos expects foster caregivers to supply the foster animal with bowls, toys, beds, and any other items during the fostering period. These items may be transferred to the animal’s new home or retained by the foster caregiver, based on their preference. However, Amos will provide any essential supplies, such as cones, muzzles, or similar items, as needed for the foster animal that must also then be transferred to the animal’s new home.
Thank you for considering opening your heart and home to an animal in need.
Together, we can make a difference in their lives and give them the second chance they deserve.
